Homemade everyday muesli

When people think of oats for breakfast, they often think of soaked oats, porridge or granola. These are all lovely options, but in my mind, they are a bit of a faff. There’s no need to soak the oats, turn them into porridge or add sugar and bake them turning them into granola. There’s also no need to buy the packet stuff which has lots of hidden salt and sugar as you can make it just as easily yourself at home. All you need are plain oats, nuts and a mix of dried and fresh fruit. I change the fruit throughout the year with strawberries and raspberries in the summer, blackberries in autumn and pineapple or mango in winter. But the key is the raisins for sweetness and the nuts for extra energy.

Method

Place all the ingredients into a breakfast bowl and add milk to your liking. Eat straight away.

For a more luxurious version or for dinner, add Greek yoghurt instead of the milk. I find you then need to add honey or a tablespoon of jam which is counter-intuitive (but delicious!).

Once I started having this every day for breakfast (without fail), this was when I noticed how my sugar cravings really started to dwindle. I don’t pre-make my everyday muesli (despite having it everyday!). It is part of my morning ritual and I love popping each jar open at a time, thinking of the health benefits that each ingredient will bring. In the past when I have been organised and pre-made it, the dried fruits and nuts always disappointinglyΒ fell to the bottom. Making it fresh everyday ensures I get the same amount of fruit, nuts and oats each time.”Β
