Everyday waffle recipe

My children (and husband) love waffles, and we’d been talking about getting a waffle machine for years as when you look at the list of ingredients of the pre-made packets there’s so much junk in them. So this summer we finally got one. And now that we have one? I’d never look back! In fact, I’m screaming at myself two years ago just saying pay the thirty pounds (or whatever it was) and reap the rewards! This is my standard recipe which is mostly milk, eggs and flour. A completely different mouthful from the processed, super sugary and refined packets.

Method

Preheat the waffle machine until it’s ready to cook.

In a bowl, mix together the flour, cinnamon, sugar, baking powder and salt.

Make a well in the middle and crack in the eggs.

Using a whisk, break up the eggs gently and start combining the flour in from the sides.

Now slowly pour in the milk and keep whisking as you pour.

Once all the milk is combined, whisk more firmly to get rid of any lumps.

When the waffle machine is hot and ready to cook, usingĀ  ladle fill the waffle squares by 3/4. Be careful not to over-fill as the mixture will pour out of the sides.

Place the top down and cook until golden brown. Don’t be alarmed by the steam… this is normal as there is a high liquid quantity.

Once the waffles are golden, carefully get them out using a spatula.

Repeat with the rest of the mixture, letting the waffle machine heat up before adding a new batch.

Enjoy!

Enjoy breakfast waffles with a choice of butter, jam, honey, Greek yoghurt, stewed fruit, maple syrup… the options are endless. I’m looking forward to making more grown up versions as the children get older by grating in courgette, blitzing up oats and adding in seeds, but for now, they love them just as they are. I hope you do too!”
